Singing the “ABC’s”, “ Mary Had a Little Lamb”, or “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” by yourself or with friends and family are all instances of monophony, as are old folk songs like “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” or “Kumbaya”. There are many examples of monophonic texture in childrens songs and folk songs. (Even if there is only one melody, if different people are singing or playing it at different times, the parts sound independent.) What is a song that uses monophonic texture?
